Maryland

Circle of the Emerald
Location: Baltimore County, Maryland (MD)
Tradition/Spiritual Path: Traditional Gardnerian Wica
Contact: Lady Raokhsha
Group Description:
On Lammas 1980, the four remaining active members of the original Deepstar coven, one generation removed from the Long Island Coven, elected to hive. Inasmuch as the reigning HPS of Deepstar had already entrusted active HPS duties to one of the four as she took a much-needed sabbatical, Deepstar closed and Circle of the Emerald functioned in its stead.
The founding members of CofE were Lady Raokhsha and her partner, Xanadu, and Jana Willow and her partner, Olorin. The covenstead then moved from the Willingboro area of New Jersey to Ewing. Through the years, membership waxed and waned as Raokhsha relocated first to New Hampshire and then back to New Jersey. In 2011, she retired and the coven disbanded. Within the year, she relocated once again, this time to Maryland, where she became a solitary practitioner until…
In the Fall of 2021, she quite inadvertently encountered seekers and was persuaded to once again pick up the sword. Most of the prior members reconvened and Circle of the Emerald was reborn on Candlemas 2022. We are presently a group of “mature”— over 30 years old — members and trainees. Younger seekers may wish to evaluate their preferences for a group of age-peers before contacting us. We definitely welcome new blood— and energy.
Our training involves a year or personal growth projects covering foundational breathing exercises, visualization, and mental focus. Experience in ritual and magic work flows in tandem. We use the books written by Gerald Gardner as our jumping-off point in our studies of the history of the Craft and the functions of a coven. We are a healing coven and we train with the purpose of enhancing that coven. We follow a system of three degrees of knowledge and we adhere to the core materials disseminated in the 1970s. After a year in our training group, a decision is made regarding the appropriateness of initiation— by both the seeker and the coven. We do not train and turn our students loose. Seekers wishing to “grab the knowledge and run” are not welcome here.

Riverwood Coven
Location: Frederick, Maryland (MD)
Tradition/Spiritual Path: Traditional Gardnerian Wica
Contact: Lady Aeowyn and Hermes

*Please note: We are not accepting new seekers at this time and we don't have plans to take on new seekers until likely Fall of 2026 or Spring of 2027. You may, however, reach out to be waitlisted if you wish to do so. Thank you!
Riverwood Coven is a Traditional Gardnerian coven located in Frederick, MD, open to serious seekers of all skill levels considering initiation into Gardnerian Craft and looking to join a working coven.
Traditional Gardnerian Wica is an initiatory path of Gardnerian Wicca, focused on preserving and practicing the tradition as received by Gerald Gardner. Our particular practice of Gardnerian Wicca draws from both Long Island Line and Sheffield Line knowledge. Characteristics of Traditional Gardnerian Wica that differentiate it from other forms of Gardnerian, BTW or General Wicca include:
-
A focus on the development of the self
-
A cultivation of Awareness
-
An orientation towards responsibility in both coven and community dynamics, and
-
The stewardship and preservation of the Gardnerian Mysteries.
Traditional Gardnerian Wica is a good path for individuals looking for original source material and quality scholarship related to Gardnerian practice, for couples looking to explore their sacredness through the God and Goddess, and for those seeking a true experience of Gardnerian Craft.
Joining Riverwood Coven is possible, but not easy. We are discerning in our choice of candidates and require that the seeker be serious about their admission and dedication to the Craft. Traditional Gardnerian Wica is not for the meek, or the vain, or those who wish to continue to see the world through the dichotomy of Christian ideals. We are unabashedly Pagan, and will teach you to see life through a Pagan world-view.
To find out more about Traditional Gardnerian Wica or to connect with other Traditional Gardnerian covens, join Traditional Gardnerian Wica - A Seeker's Hub on Facebook or visit the website at www.tradgardwica.com.

The first source is the Book of Shadows and other teachings of the New York Welsh Traditionalist Gwyddonaid (NYWTG or "Welsh Tradition"), as founded by Lord Gwydion. The second source is the Book of Shadows and other teachings of the Welsh Rite Traditionalist Gwyddonaid (WRTG), as founded by Lord Gwion.
Our coven is about self-transformation through a relationship with nature following the cycles of the Moon and honoring the Goddess and God at the Sabbats. We celebrate our connection to the Gods and nature with teachings of the Celtic Traditional Gwyddonaid and lessons of nature lore. Most of all, initiates become part of our coven family. Practicing in an enviornment of love and trust is very important to us. Our mythological pantheon is derived from Celtic and Welsh folklore.

We are an established British Traditional Gardnerian Witchcraft teaching group/Coven located in the Raleigh/Wake Forest area. We are 3* Initiates of the same. We are open to seekers SPECIFICALLY interested in the possibility of being initiated into a formal Gardnerian Coven if mutually desired. Our training is NOT based on a "year and a day" model, as a Seeker's journey progresses differently and in their own time. This is a commitment of time, dedication, and patience. If you seek training in British Traditional Gardnerian Witchcraft it is important that you thoroughly research this Tradition as all Traditions are different, and not suited to every seeker. We highly recommend reading, Traditional Wicca: A Seeker's Guide by Thorn Mooney and Stewart Farrar's "What Witches Do".
We will email you a short application and once completed, we can set up a personal meeting (in a public venue, of course). Our application is NOT optional. It is important for us to determine if our teachings and your expectations are one and the same. That said, there are no right or wrong answers, we just want to learn more about you!
We are open to individuals of ALL orientations and gender identifications, however, our teachings are based on the belief of the feminine and masculine aspects of the Divine, as well as love, trust, and respect. If you come to us, we expect nothing less from you. Drama and prejudice have no place in Sacred Space.

Mission Statement
We are here to support and celebrate Ohio’s diverse community. No matter if your beliefs are Polytheist, Atheist, somewhere in between or have none at all. We are also here to preserve and maintain the dignity and honor of being a Pagan, Witch, Healer, Heathen, Earth Child, all around accountable human beings and good stewards of Earth.
We believe that in a world where the technology that drives our society and the currency that circulates it can fail at any given moment, we do not take stock in that aspect so much as we do the Practices and teachings of our Ancestors. We feel they are more important than ever and must be preserved. We value the beliefs, sacred or profane, of all Practitioners.
Although we focus on the root Paths of Ohio Practice, all Paths are honored and respected amongst everyone in our Society as we expect the same in return. We provide a safe and welcoming community to celebrate and commune together free of judgment and political banter. We support our community in many ways, from supporting events to donating to our fund-raising partners and working with our vetted businesses.

Utah

Wasatch Coven
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah (UT)
Tradition/Spiritual Path: Gardnerian Wicca
Contact: Ian
Group Description:
We are a Gardnerian coven located in downtown Salt Lake City. Gardnerian Wicca is an experiential mystery cult bound by an oath of secrecy, meaning that someone can only learn the tradition once they have been initiated. Because of this, pre-initiatory training with this group does not resemble what is done in an initiatory Gardnerian context. Rather, seekers have the opportunity to work toward initiation through a period of training in general ritual, magic, and Paganism; this allows them to build the fundamental skills they’ll use after initiation as well as the strong interpersonal relationships upon which a coven rests. Interested parties may visit https://WasatchCoven.com/ or contact WasatchCoven@gmail.com. We proudly welcome LGBTQIA+ seekers.

Ár nDraíocht Féin (ADF)
Location: Puget Sound, Washington (WA)
Tradition/Spiritual Path: Druidry
Contact: David
Last Updated: 1/7/2026
Group Description:
Cascadia Grove is a part of Ár nDraíocht Féin, an independent tradition (denomination) of Neopagan Druidism.
ADF is working to combine in-depth scholarship with the inspiration of artistry and spiritual practice to create a powerful modern Paganism. We’re researching and interpreting sound modem scholarship about the ancient Indo-European Pagans — the Celts, Norse, Slavs, Balts, Greeks, Romans, Persians, Vedics, and others. Upon these cultural foundations we are working to build a religion that these ancient people would appreciate and understand yet one which has depth and power for modern people. We’re bringing together people trained in ritual, psychic skills and applied mythology to bring the remnants of the old ways to life. We’re creating a nonsexist, non-racist, LGBT-inclusive, organic, flexible and publicly available religion to practice as a way of life and to hand on to future generations.
Our local Grove was formed in September of 2012 and serves the Puget Sound area. We meet 8 times a year to celebrate the equinoxes, solstices and the cross quarter days (including Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh, and Samhain). All of our celebrations are free and open to the public. We also meet twice a month online and have extensive online training programs and guilds for those who are interested. We invite all to share with us in celebrating the natural diversity of religious experience and expression.
