DarkStar Coven - Gardnerian

Group Details Group Name: DarkStar Coven Location: Sacramento, California (CA) Tradition/Spiritual Path: Gardnerian Wicca Contact Info Contact: Kalisha Email: kalishazahr@yahoo.com Group Description: DarkStar is an autonomous Gardnerian coven located in the metropolitan area of Sacramento, California. Gardnerian Wicca is an initiatory, oath-bound, orthopraxic, Witchcraft tradition that traces its roots directly to Gerald Gardner - who was the father of modern Wicca. In DarkStar we worship the Old Gods and practice the Art of Witchcraft for personal, spiritual, and magical growth. There are many misconceptions about traditional covens. Suffice to say here that being in a tradition does not mean that we are rigid or consider ourselves better than other Witches. We may have some ritual liturgy in common with other Gardnerians, but many of us are innovative as well. As a group, our focus in DarkStar is experiential - we do not do things exactly the same way at all times. We acknowledge that there are many other forms of Witchcraft - we are simply called to this particular path for personal, spiritual, and magical growth. Gardnerian Wicca is a Priesthood of the Old Pagan Gods - but we do not have a congregation like a church. Generally speaking, Wicca in it's myriad of forms is now the only major religion that England has given to the world! Gardnerian Wicca is a branch of what is called Traditional Wicca. There are many misconceptions about Traditional Wicca. Suffice to say here that being in our tradition does not mean that we are rigid or consider ourselves better than other Witches. We acknowledge that there are many other forms of Witchcraft - we are simply called to this particular path because it resonates with us. DarkStar was founded in 2001. The coven leaders have had decades of experience in the Craft prior to forming the current coven. Our Gardnerian ancestry goes back to Eleanor Bone and also to Patricia Crowther - two of Gerald Gardner's High Priestesses in England. Our credentials can be readily confirmed via our extensive worldwide community upon request. DarkStar Coven is an inclusive group that embraces diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. We believe in equal rights for all. As a group, our focus in DarkStar is experiential - we do not do things exactly the same way at all times - but we do have a certain amount of ritual structure. If you are a beginner, we suggest that you do some preliminary research in order to figure out what sort of Pagan or Witchcraft group you are looking fo before approaching anyone to ask about training or membership. (Wikipedia has some fairly decent pages on Modern Paganism and Witchcraft traditions). It's important to be informed before contacting a group because there is a great deal of variety and having some idea of what you want your spiritual path to be simply makes sense. If you have done some research and find that you are *specifically drawn to the Gardnerian tradition*, you must meet the following criteria: You are over 18 years of age (we prefer 21+), are of good character, you have reliable transportation, and you are able to meet 2-3 times a month on weekends. (If you are outside of our commuting area, travel will definitely be required as we do not train people online. How often that is depends on the circumstances if we decide to work with you.) Before contacting us, we strongly suggest that you read the following books first: Thorn Mooney: "Traditional Wicca: A Seekers Guide" (2018) - written by a Gardnerian High Priestess. (Helpful hints for finding a group). Thea Sabin: "Wicca for Beginners: Fundamentals of Philosophy & Practice" (1983, 2006) (An overview and introduction to traditional Wicca that includes basic philosophy and some exercises for beginners.) Gerald Gardner: "The Meaning of Witchcraft" (1954) and/pr "Witchcraft Today" (1959) (Gardner is essential reading for those seeking Gardnerian Wicca. Both books are a mix of folklore and historical tidbits about Witchcraft and Magic.) You must also exhibit a serious commitment to personal growth and learning to be considered for training and initiation into our tradition and coven family. Be advised that it takes years of dedication and hard work to walk the path of Gardnerian Wicca. You must be able and willing to make a serious commitment to the Priesthood as a member. Please be mindful that any previous eperience you have does not necessarily put you on a fast track towards being initiated into the Gardnerian tradition or advancing in the coven. This is a lifetime commitment for most - it is not a competition. Do note that we take whatever time is necessary to get to know potential candidates. We will only consider those who we feel are the right fit for us - which also means that we need to be the right fit for you! Please also be advised that there is no guarantee that if you begin to work with us that you will be initiated. Honestly sometimes it simply does not work out. If that happens, we will try to refer you to another group. It is your responsibility when reaching out to us to send a letter of introduction that incudes your age, your occupation, and the town you live in or nearby. Please indicate where you heard about us. Please also include a paragraph or two about some of your hobbies and interests, your spiritual/religious background, and what about Gardnerian Wicca calls to you. We will not respond to requests asking to join our coven with no other content - so please introduce yourself. Thank you and good luck in your search!

Gala Witchcraft - Initiatory Male Mysteries

Group Details Group Name: Gala Witchcraft Location: Online/Other - USA includes Covens in New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Arizona (check the website for updates on locations) Tradition/Spiritual Path: Wicca/Male Mysteries/Gay Witchcraft
Contact Info Website: www.galawitchcraft.com Group Description: Gala Witchcraft is not just Wicca for Gay men. With the addition of the Male Mysteries to modern Wicca, Gala Witchcraft is the re-emergence of a Gay priesthood. We do not claim to be a continuation of those august and ancient orders of Gay male priests that populated the ancient world, but a modern incarnation of their same energetic current. Operating from the premise that Gay men were viewed as magical in every culture and that there are magical and spiritual practices exclusive to Gay men in every culture, Gala endeavors to transcend culture, pantheon, or system. The foundations of our tradition are European Witchcraft, specifically Wicca, but, like Gay men, we believe that the witch was also universal. Oshun and Yemaya are both credited with being witches within the African Diaspora Religions (ADRs). The Native American tribes had their medicine men. Several aboriginal cultures speak of witch doctors. Even Taoism has a "witchy" practitioner. No one culture owns the archetypal concept of the witch. In Gala, we actively encourage our members to explore the rich history of what it means to be a Gay male witch within their own ancestral framework. Initiates of Gala are fro all ethnicities, races, and backgrounds. Gala uses the Theosophical idea that every religion has a spark of truth within it, and we encourage each other to explore those universal occult truths. The men who participate in our tradition just happen to practice witchcraft as well as contribute to the re-awakening of the Gay Mystery Traditions.
